Thumbsucks

Tale of Two Cities, a self-hating hipster blog, takes the much-needed piss out of the zanily dressed revelers on lastnightsparty, cobrasnake, and VICE mag, in a weekly feature called "Blue States Lose: ToTC's Don'ts and Don'ts". This is a fucking excellent idea, executed almost as well as it could be - I think black people could do it better.

In other news, how many movies can Tilda Swinton be in in one season? The albino-esque Londoner can be seen in the upcoming indie Thumbsucker, Jim Jarmusch's straight-faced Broken Flowers, and as the ice queen in The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe, which I can't wait to see.

Has everyone noticed the movie industry's recent affection for outsider-art Force Field-style kitsch posters? Ever since Napoleon Dynamite took the DIY aesthetic and made it palatable and boring, his naive style has been all over title sequences and movie posters everywhere.Thumbsucker's poster includes floating line drawings accompanied by gems of just precious early-90's self loathing like "Honk if you're flawed", Junebug boasts a sloppy-chic family portrait, and remember that Palindromes comic book fantasy drawing?

...I don't remember if this trend bothers me or not. Also, I promise to stop mentioning Thumbsucker every two seconds; blame that little imp Lou. Coffee time.
