Two items in the nightlife department: Dirty Down was packed and ridiculously fun on Friday night - until the boys in blue rolled in around 1:30am. That's right, Lit was raided, and I was there. I'm not sure if they were gripey about capacity, ID's, licenses, or what - because my friends and I fled to Black & White to continue the delirium. Equation: Dallas BBQ + "Texas-size" frozen mojitos and margaritas + open Sparks bar = good health. Also, happy birthday to a certain l'il princess.

In sadder news, beloved Mehanata the Bulgarian Bar is closing, hopefully temporarily, thanks to a Ramada Inn. The bar is most famous for raging Slavic-themed parties hosted by Gogol Bordello frontman Eugene Hutz on Thursdays. According to an email from co-owner Alex Dimitrov, the bar has:

...joined forces with Maia Meyhane located at Avenue B and 6th Street in the East Village and the parties will be held there with the same DJs and staff for the time being.
O, Mehanata:
Мы пропустим вас.
